Federation
of Freight Forwarders' Associations in India is the national
apex body of Customs House Agents' Association established
at various custom ports and airports in India. Founded
on December 2, 1962 as the Federation of Customs House
Agents' Associations in India, it was subsequently renamed
the Federation of Freight Forwarders' Associations in
India. This was the year when licensing for the customs
house agents was prescribed in India in accordance with
the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The
Federation represents the interests of customs house
agents in India and closely coordinates the activities
of customs house agents' associations spread over various
customs ports and airports. The Federation seeks to
identify the problems faced by customs house agents
and strives to find avenues to bring relief, to take
united action to protect and promote the interests of
the profession in all aspects, and to effectively interact
with member associations to improve the efficiency and
productivity of their members through training programs
and the dissemination of information. There are upwards
of 2,000 customs house agents operating in India.
